Madhouse: General Update

Jul 20, 2008 20:25

Been busy the past week with the new house. Making some progress, but it really doesnt seem like a whole hell of a lot. :/

Plumbing: Got my uncle to look at the boiler and the leaking plumbing upstairs. Bathroom plumbing should only take an hour (his estimate) but the boiler and heater in the basement could be piped better, so I'm having him take care of that for me.
I hate the leaks coming from the bathroom. They make my pantry kitchen a watery mess, even with buckets. To make things a little crappier I also have to take apart a built in set of drawers in the bathroom to access the plumbing in the shower. To make things worse there's also lead paint behind them. YAY!

Electrical: Got some of the crappy low voltage wiring out, like the broken security system and old phone wires. . Learned a bit about what goes where, so I have an idea on where to start. Got my basement lights to work by finding the correct switch to use!
Tested out the Washer and Dryer in the basement. Both run, but the dryer doesnt seem to dry too well. I'm going to have to actually try to wash some clothes in them to see how both run, but at least they function. Swoot.

Painting and cleaning: I hate scraping paint. It takes forever and it makes a mess out of everything. Thankfully I'm done with the windows and doorframes in the baby's room. Now it's just a matter of finishing the trim and cleaning the leavings off the floor before we can paint. Nice part about the floor is that its some crappy lenolium flooring that we're going to scrape up, so we dont need to worry about a tarp. Once the baby's room is done being painted we take out the floor and lay out a carpet (havent decided yet). It's gonna look nice when it's done. I'll post pics eventually.

Concerns: Doing this stuff by myself sucks.
