just so long as there are no mutant spiders there...

Basil is going into the vet to have radioactive iodine treatment. We decided that overall that was a better choice than having him on medication for the rest of his kitty life since if it works, he won't need medication and can just be his usual cat self. But I'm worried because he is going to be gone from us for a week and then for 2 weeks we ( Read more... )

*hugs* Poor Basil.

Good luck with the wedding thing. Sounds like it is going to be an exercise in patience?

*hugs* I feel a lot better having brought Basil in. The staff is really attentive and promised that the cage he is kept in is larger than usual and has two perches for him.

Thanks.. I think I am going to need it since patience is a virtue I generally lack.

*hugs* Good luck with the radioactive iodine treatment! I hope that Basil will be back to normal soon, so you can give him cuddles.

*hugs* Thanks it seemed like a better idea than to medicate him for the rest of his life. I feel a little better after meeting the people who will be looking after Basil in person. They all seem really nice and friendly and attentive.

The no cuddling and letting him lick us is going to be a real challenge.

So far Cookie is sleeping and when I go to bring Basil over his medication later I will ask to see how things are going with him. I was really relieved to hear that the cage they are kept in is large and has platforms. ♥

Poor kitties. .;___;

Though, a radioactive kitty sounds kinda awesome. You could make him into a superhero.

I know a part of me wonders if he will get weird mutant super powers and if that is a good thing or a bad thing lol

Does Basil have an over reactive thyroid problem? ginarolo June 8 2009, 17:36:42 UTC
I had the radioactive iodine done for my thyroid. It was not fun but I slept a lot.

Afterwards I had to have thyroid medicine for the rest of my life.

It's a little different with cats than people, I think it is a different isotope. If all goes well, Basil will not need medication after this, it is why we are doing this procedure vs. just medicating him. ^^ Only about 5% of cases need medication afterwords.

My SiL also had an overactive thyroid and she had a radioactive iodine treatment. I can't remember if she needed medication.

I think the hardest part is just not having him around and the 2 weeks we will not be allowed to let him snuggle us much.

I had to send the dogs away when I had mine.

Afterwards my scent must have changed cause the dogs didn't want to be near me in the beginning. They wouldn't lick, sniff me or jump on me.

Best wishes to Basil for a speedy recovery.

I am sure Basil will want to be near us after being apart a week, so it will be hard to send him away.

But hopefully all will go well and thanks for the well wishes. :)
