A year in review, 2009 part 1

Well, 2009 is almost over, and thus will end a roller-coaster ride of a year. It began with a search for employment and ended up with a job, a failed job change, some good movies and a hockey game.

I know I've been bad about updating my journals all along, but I'll try to play catch up with this multi-part, so without further, this was 2009:

After completing my last course in December, I finally had everything I needed to graduate, and was expecting a note on my transcript when the mark became official. When that failed, I began to worry and got in touch with an advisor. It turned out that my insurance policy against a failed course left me with a requirement check due for May, so after talking with them, I got a fast-track on that. Still took a while to become official when the psych department put up a few weeks' delay on verifying my credits.

Towards the end of the month, I began to run out of spending money and put up an offer for commissions at a price below my ongoing rate. The only response I received was from a purple squirrel named Risu (from the Waterloo-Wellington area, if I recall), so it didn't work quite as well as I wanted.

After many, many failed job interviews, though, I finally landed something in April: web developer for a small clothing company not far from my house. Pay was mediocre, but it was better than staying at home earning nothing. When I started, it was as one of two new employees, the other being the graphic designer.

Alas, a few months later (July), I got a job interview with another company based on an old application, and an offer involving more money. I initially jumped ship for it, but when they backed out the night before my last day of work, I panicked and fortunately got the first job back, with a higher pay and a year's commitment.

Still to come, August to December.
