Last night as I'm about to take the trash out to the bin, I noticed something quite weird. As I opened the door, it almost fell completely off the hinges. "What the ..." I thought to myself, and then I noticed that two of the three pins that hinge the door in were on the ground. A few moments of contemplation, and I realized, "SH*T! Somebody tried to break into the house." We quickly called the police and while waiting for them to arrive took a careful look around the interior and exterior of the house. Thankfully they did not successfully get into the house, nor did they steal anything from the exterior of the house. We started thinking about when this could have happened, who might have wanted to do it, and what we could have done to prevent it. I wouldn't expect anyone else to have any idea about the first two points, but the last point is what I'd like some advice on. Does anybody have any thoughts, ideas, or insights that might help?
