Last night, I attended a dinner party hoste by Jim, one of the American attorneys here who has been here a while. I had to get the battery jumped, yet again, 3rd time in two days, but thanks to Arnold and Pete, at least thought to add water to the cells, which required a whole 1.5-liter bottle. Now the battery works great.
At the dinner were Pete's family, Sarah the departing Peace Corps Volunteer, Rachael the incoming Peace Corps Volunteer (yes, my friend Rachael from Yap, from the Outer Island of Fais -- she will complete her third year of PC work here in Palau). Plus two interesting guys -- a Romanian veterinarian and a Czech dentist. I tried some basic Czech on him and immediately flubbed it.
Anyway, excellent landcrabs, steak, mixed salad, kankun and other local-style delicacies, with wine and beer. Jim's son is one of the original members of the "Blue Man Group," and we saw a video of them, and I actually saw some of the video from episodes of "Survivor Palau" that aired 3 years ago. First time ever.
After the diner part, I got Pete's family back for their airport ride, then hung out with my landlords and Erin in the restaurant. It's actually a really nice little place, and should be open regularly soon. It got late nd nothing much was happening anwhere else that I know of, so to sleep. And Sunday has been quiet; Erin signed me up for a night dive this evening, but there weren't enough people so it got cancelled.
I have been using the gym downstairs, at least 3 of the past 5 days, and really building up a sweat. I go til I'm shaking, but that isn't necessarily such a good thing.
And now the power went off -- looks like the whole island of Koror, though the connected islands still have lights I can see.
I wonder how the internet is still working if the wireless server is in this building?
