In the USA, when you describe something as a "Dive Bar," it usually means a low-class joint that reeks of vomit and urine with cheap beer and cheaper patrons.
Here, it's something else entirely . It's the bar at the dive shop. There are two major ones I've been visiting, "Bottom Time' at Sam's Club and "The Dropoff" at Neco. The latter has a happy hour from 4-8 pm every night and is therefore inexpensive. This makes me happy. They also jumpstart your car for you if the battery is dead.
Met three of my colleagues for a while, saw a Senator at the corner of the bar, saw several of the "Survivor" crew there, as usual, and saw the charged Taiwanese Captain who has been dealing in illegal shark fins, crocodle meat and smuggled cigarettes cavorting with women at a table. One of my colleagues photographed him.
"Survivor Town" is right next door, a campground of shipping containers, tents, equipment, machinery and people, mostly from Australia, that provides the support for the television production. It looks like a circus.
Talked to other Americans there, including military contractors, veterans of Iraq, and new lawyers. A good time.
