There are no poisonous spiders here, but there are some that are scary. This one type of webless huntress occasionally sneaks into buildings; you are more likely to see them out in the woods. But last night, after watching "War of the Worlds" and "Jackass" (I think the latter proved the better film, actually), I saw a mid-sized one one the ceiling. Kind of above my side of the bed. A leg-span like the palm of my hand. I calmly had time to freak out, leave and get a flyswatter, and take a couple of jumping swings at her, which only dropped her onto my dresser behind the CD rack. Then I saw her a couple of times on my CD rack, took another swing, and she came rushing under the CD case towards me. But into the open drawer. Danka's underwear drawer. I could see the spider in there, and grabbed a tissue to attack hand-to-hand style, but she dodged my parry and disappeared out the back of the drawer. Into the dresser frame. I calmly brought the vacuum cleaner in and swirled the nozzle around several times, and slammed the drawer open and shut maybe 60 or 70 times. No sign.
I ripped the bed apart a few times, thn tucked in the foot end. By then, Danka was ready for bed. She took the news about her underwear drawer better than me, and joked that the spider was in there, afraid of me. Right.
So then she said it was time to go to sleep.
You've GOT to be kidding me . . . .
