From Norman & OKC (OK) via Houston (TX), Honolulu (HI) & Guam to Yap, Micronesia

This was the longest travel day in my life. Oh, days, actually; I crossed the international date line for the first time in my life. Thoughts and highlights (?) . . . .

Out my window: the Red River, Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport, Houston's sprawl, Austin, the oilfields of the Permian Basin, Guadalupe Peak and the Guadalupe Mountains (highest point in Texas, which I summited in 2001), White Sands National Monument, the Rio Grande, deserts galore, Phoenix, the Colorado River, more deserts, San Bernadino, the mountains and Los Angeles, clouds and then a quick cloud break for Catalina Island, and one massive ocean. I don't see how anyone could sail it. But I lack imagination. The beauty of Hawaii, Honolulu and the last major Hawaiian Island in the distance, the Date Line -- skip to Saturday the 19th, more ocean, storm-ravaged Rota Island and Andrews Air Force Base, Guam. Burger King and $20 Jack Daniels Black being the only bargain (!?!) at the Duty Free Store. Believe me, I tried back in Houston, only to be rebuffed.

It is hot.
