World Needs More Oil Capacity

SYDNEY (Reuters) - An extra 3 million barrels per day (bpd) of production capacity worldwide is needed to avoid another year of blistering oil prices, International Energy Agency (IEA) executive director Claude Mandil warned on Sunday.
"We expect oil demand will be around 2 million barrels per day more in 2005 versus the average in 2004, so we need something like 3 million barrels per day of additional capacity globally to avoid another year of high prices," Mandil told Reuters on the eve of the 19th World Energy Congress in Sydney

My friend Brett expressed the desire today that gas prices increase to about 5 US dollars a gallon (about the same as it is across Europe, actually). That would be the only way Americans would start to behave sensibly.
Or maybe 7 or 9 dollars a gallon.
As "W" might say under other circumstances, "bring it on."
