And just before noon, I delivered the final bit of things to be delivered: a TV w/DVD & VCR built in, a computer & monitor, pillows and assorted kitchen stuff (like decent flatware for Danka) & clothes. It is now already all loaded in the 20-foot container that will be shipped to Yap.
It fills about one-third of the space in the container. What a waste.
And here's the kicker: I had been offered 2,500 pounds to be shipped in the first draft contract, but asked for 5,000 pounds, to accommodate two people. The boss offered some protest based on cost, and suggested staggering shipments at different times, but included the 5,000 in the final contract. The exec assistant who made the arrangements also mentioned some problem in getting the authorization because the shipping cost was higher than they expected, but the authorization came through when I wrote a letter pleading for them not to hold up the shipping -- as it is causing me hardship to be waiting around here in Denver, spending what little money I have. Which is true.
While loading yesterday, the two loaders, professionals all the way, kept a running estimate of weight. Their best guesses after packing my storage unit: 2,800 and 3,400 pounds. Joe insisted the pros alwasy overestimate. We added 500 pounds at the retarded center thrift store, by the manager's estimate. I brought another 300-400 today and found out it was already 4,580 pounds. I am almost at 100% of my capacity.
I feel kind of bad.
But this is important for me, because for the first time in four years, I am not paying a storage rental fee.
