By Jose Rodriguez T. Senase

KOROR, Palau (Island Times, Sept. 28, 2015) - The Bureau of Labor and Human Resources, Bureau of Immigration, and the Office of the Attorney General will soon be launching Operation Clean Business, an operation that will herald tougher enforcement of Palau’s labor law and regulations.

The announcement for the launching of the operation was contained in a notice sent by BLHR Director Rinsang Rechirei to all employers in this island nation. The notice was dated September 23, 2015.
The Notice says the operation is designed to target criminal employment activities damaging to the business environment of Palau. The initiative is aimed at ensuring compliance with the laws and rules and regulations of the aforementioned departments within the Ministry of Justice. As part of the drive, Labor Officers will begin inspection/audit 30 days after the notices are served. The Notice says employers and foreign employees found to have violated the law will be issued criminal citations and will be ordered to appear before the Court of Common Pleas.

Santy Asanuma to ‎Palau2013

Alii ungil 8:56 am Tuesday tutau; I have not lived till early this morning I would have not heard a mega titanic proportion of roaring thunder ever in your p.p.p; I swear that several of those thunderous blasts were at ground level; my beautiful wife said that all the lobsters of Palau must be out from under the rocks; it continues to pour hard;

Government Bureau of Labor has issued a crack down on increasing number of illegal foreign workers in the country; violators of both employers and employees will be fined or jailed or both; now foreign workers are using human rights to leverage for their privileges to equate to those of the citizens; most leaders are not making the distinction between human rights and legal privileges provided in the immigration and labor laws; if no action is taken Palau will soon be open land for all people of the world want to come and live in Palau;
. . .
Rubak Rateliu: This is a long overdue process that should have been taken a long time ago. Lawmakers/BoL should be proactive rather than reactive then this country wouldn't have these problems of illegal aliens and their illegal businesses, resulting in millions of revenue loss for the country.
