KOROR, PALAU -- Our loving son, brother, and closest friend, David Walter Shipper, died suddenly on Sunday, March 15, 2015, at his home in Koror, Palau. David was born in Florence and graduated from Coffee High School in 1988. He attended the University of Virginia before graduating from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. David obtained a law degree from the University of Alabama in 1995, and clerked for the Honorable E.B. Haltom, United States District Court Judge.
After his clerkship ended, David accepted a position as legal counsel to the Supreme Court of Palau where he worked for two years. David then returned to the United States and worked as an assistant city attorney for San Francisco, California. Several years later, David returned to Palau where he held the position of assistant attorney general to the president. At the time of his death, David was serving as senior legal counsel to the President of Palau working with international clients on immigration, human rights, and international business issues. Above all, David was kind and generous to the many diverse people whose lives he touched.
David is survived by parents Jane and Stanley Shipper; brother, Michael; sister-in-law, Meredith; and many close relatives. He leaves behind an entire world of devoted friends and loved ones who will never forget him.
His graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2015, at the Johnsons Woods Family Cemetery, 801 N. Commons Street, East, Tuscumbia, Alabama, with Dr. Richard T. Gillespie officiating. Visitation will immediately follow.
Pallbearers include Michael Shipper, Michael Cody, Uhland Redd IV, Billy Ray Casteel, Tony Dillard, and Leonce Richard.
