Arrival in Barcelona, Spain

Jul 04, 2004 22:53

Arrived safely and managed to find the hotel after 3 days of driving around Catalonya. Greasy fried tapas stuff at a local dive joint; we're in a 4-star hotel on the edge of town across from the Forum site and 10 minutes from the far North edge of the Beach -- by the port, unfortunately. Far from the center. Our choice tapas bar was 5 blocks away, across from the old Olymic village, which is now obviously low-income housing. The rest of the neighborhood is construction / renovation sites. To my shock, I have internet access to my own laptop in the room. Danka is passed out with sunburn; I will soon follow. Most people in this city are still sitting down to dinner for this Sunday night.

Tomorrow is Gaudi day.

News from Portugal: Greece knocked off the Ports in their home stadium to complete an extremely inprobable European Cup soccer championship. It's a good year to be Greek (Euro Cup; Olympics; heck, Rita Wilson probably has another hit movie . . . )
