So after some morning exercise, Danka and I went down to Sam's to meet Andrejka and Michael P., who brought the Alii Bamou around from Surangel's for its first voyage of 2010. Mike's cousin Kelly joined us and our Sovak friends Valika and Mirko joined as we loaded up and boarded. We started out, and soon heard loud warning beeps from the console. THey went away if we went slowly, so we proceeded with a plan to monitor that closely.
We went straight to Pincers Cove and moored up and swam around. I just floated and relaxed. Valika took the major step of getting in the water (while holding onto the ladder) and relaxing on the boat. Kelly took the bog step of jumping into the water and floating without a life jacket. A little later, the Sea Gypsy, a 23-foot slop, appeared and anchored. The three Court Counsel, Ashby, Matt and Kevin, and APD Amy and Christine, began swimming around as well. Otherwise, we had the cove to ourselves.
It was the first time I met Kelly, Mike's cousin, a teacher and Green Schol founder from New York City on a trip around the world. Nice. She's already been to Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Australia and a few other places, with stops in Japan, Nepal and Turkey to go. Valika and Mirko are a Slovak couple from Bratislava, and both are some kind of astrologist seeers . . . Valika visited last October with Andrejka. Oh, and we departed about the same time as the Slovakia -- Canada Olympic semi-final Hockey game started, so Mirko and I wanted to know about that. And we heard about tsunami warnings from Andrejka's mother . . . .
We left Pincers and went through the Rock Islands past the Arch, and out to Ulong. Of course, once we got to Ulong, kind of far out, the loud warning beeps began again. Mike figured it was a warning for low oil, even though there was plenty of oil. I had also tried to start up the Navman GPS, and we all failed. Something with the battery.
So we had a problem with the boat, and the way to deal with it most safely was to bring her in slowly. Andrejka piloted her all the way back at a low speed of maybe 2 or 3 knots. We made it back before sundown. Beautiful sunset. Found out Canada beat Slovakia 3-2. Problem turned out to be nothing major, but Michael explained what happened to the boat shop's owner and he said he would fix it -- and bust some heads for letting the boat out of there like that.
