KOROR (Palau Horizon) - Ombudsman Moses Uludong was placed under administrative leave by President Johnson Toribiong as he faces a forgery case against him.

The Special Prosecutor’s Office charged with one count of forgery on Monday Uludong.

Uludong is accused of forging a chief’s signature when he filed a libel lawsuit against several individuals, including members of the media, for an article regarding alleged vacant seats in BaiMelekeong--the highest traditional council of chiefs of Melekeok State.

Secharuleong Thedore Rengulbai’s signature was believed to have been forged. He is a co-plaintiff in the action.

In an email sent to State Minister Sandra Pierantozzi, the president ordered her to instruct Uludong to return to Palau with her or “as soon as possible.”

“And please advise him that he will be placed on administrative leave upon his return pending the outcome of his court case,” the president said.

An employee on administrative leave continues to receive pay and benefits during the leave.

Uludong is currently in Noumea, New Caledonia attending the third summit of Pacific island countries and France with State Minister Pierantozzi.

By Bernadette H. Carreon - Horizon News Staff.

KOROR (Palau Horizon) - Palau’s first head of mission to the European Communities and Ambassador to Germany Carlos Salii was officially sworn in yesterday.

Salii was earlier confirmed by the Senate in a unanimous vote.

The Senate agreed with Toribiong that Salii is fit for the job because he is a well established attorney with an extensive experience in practicing law in Palau and overseas.

The European Commission and the Council of Europeans have both given their support to the appointment of Salii as Palau’s first Head of Mission to the European Communities.

The president urged the Senate to confirm Salii’s nomination after the EU accepted his appointment.

Palau has a close working relationship with the EU and had received financial aid from it in the past.
