Tour The Tiny Island Taking Guantanamo Detainees
by Michael Sullivan
Weekend Edition Sunday, July 12, 2009 ·

The Pacific island nation of Palau (population 20,000) offered to take in 13 Uighur detainees from Guantanamo at the United States' request. NPR's Michael Sullivan drops in on the president, explores the special relationship between the U.S. and Palau, visits the beach where American and Japanese forces fought one of the bloodiest battles of World War II, and explains why the jellyfish in Jellyfish Lake have almost no sting.
