As I get out of work to hopefully buy some milk for Mac and Cheese, I stopped by Dennys after calling Brad. Saw an old acquaitance named Mike Gionfrido. He is a good kid and I am glad he is still arround. Stayed long enough to crack four jokes and left only to be stopped by a stange man.
"Hey, sir I don't mean to stop you but I was wondering if you could help me out. I crashed my car on the highway 'cause I fell asleep at the wheel. It is parked at Friendlys with fucked up rims and I can't drive it any further. I just got off work and I need to sleep. Could you give me a lift?"
Okay I've been in this situation before and I haven't been mugged yet so I start my quiz show to get all the details of his crash. I thought it would be okay.
We hop in the car and I turn down the aggressive music and find out his life story. His name is Bob and he works for C&S wholesale, no kids, appartment bound. Lived near me when he was a kid. Whenever I stopped talking or he stopped his eyes closed and he fell forward asleep. I roughly knew where we were going but something woke us both up. Two cop cars lights on come up on me and I pull over. Now Bob dosen't panic but I can feel the tension mount in the car. Not worried yet as the cars go past me quite fast following the same road we are traveling on. Slowly we creep into his neighborhood and pull into his driveway which has alot of motion in it.
The cops are there.
"Oh shit dude, pull out of here lets go. I don't know what happened but I want none of it". Bob says as he slinks back into the '97 Prisim seats. I couldn't help but smile as I hit the reverse and abliged his wish, believing that there was more to Bob than previously discussed.
"Do you think this is about the crash man or is it about my room mate?" After explaining I was sure it wasn't about his small infraction I asked him "Well, what now man. Do you have a place to lay low for a bit?"
We ended up going to the next street over and I let him sneak in anyway he knew how. I don't even know what happened to him but for a tired overworked soul I realized I don't have it bad at all.
None of us really do.
