The Primus show was awesome. I'm glad I went.
Since I got tickets late, I sat way up near the top of the balcony.
The opener was The Dead Kenny G's. They were a sax, guitar, drums/electric xylophone trio. They had a style very appropriate for a Primus show. Very good stuff. They played 30 minutes.
After a short 15 minute setup, it was time for Les Claypool's Fancy Brigade. It was Les plus a drums, a stand-up bass, and a few other instruments. They played an hour.
After 30 minutes of setup, it was time for the Primus set. The songs I could remember (a few I didn't recognize)
To Defy The Laws of Tradition
Duchess and the Proverbial Mind Spread
Frizzle Fry
Pudding Time
2 or 3 other songs
A short stop to count down to the new year, where "special guests" came out: guys dressed as Frosty The Snowman, Santa, and a reindeer. Les sung an odd version of Frosty The Snowman (couldn't hear the lyrics very well)
Over The Falls
1 or 2 other songs
John The Fisherman
My Name is Mud
Encore: Too Many Puppies
They finished up at 12:45.
It was a great show. 3 hours of awesome music in total. It was a head banging, foot stomping good time. A great thing live is to feel the percussive force that Les' bass adds to the drums that you don't really get with mp3. I definitely want to go to one of their shows again.
