I am gonna start putting up some *interesting* square dance sequences. Some of them I wrote (or will write). Some I have danced to, or heard, or talked to other callers/dancers about. And, some are out of various collections of sequences that I have access to. The discussion is about the sequence, about what works for the dancers, and what is crap. The guy(or girl) behind the mike does not matter, even if that guy is me.
============
(The calls are numbered to facilitate the discussion)
1) Heads right and left through
2) Heads lead right, veer left
3) Couples circulate
4) Boys do your part of a load the boat
5) Girls walk and dodge
6) Girls chase right
7) Girls make a right hand start, turn the star 3/4
8) Boys reach out and courtesy turn your partner with a roll promenade
============
(1), (2) and (3) are just setup, to put the boys in the right position.
(4) this is the part up for discussion...
(5) - (8) is one possible close
(4) The boys are in tandem on the ends of 2-faced lines. The definition of load the boat says "pass 3 people, then face in".
Since the boys are in tandem... they will never pass anyone.... This requires the "do your part of..." load the boat. Each of the boys is doing his part of load the boat with two phantoms.
Also, some are facing out (leading), and some are facing in (following). The "normal usage" has in facers, and they go half way around the outside, and a bit more. The "odd usage" has out facers, they go 3/4 around, and a bit more.
If they pass the phantoms correctly, they each end up standing on their home spot, facing in.

So, what do you think? I would love to hear your thoughts on this sequence, both as a caller, and as a dancer.
