So I'm here, but suprisingly there wasn't a welcome parade or anything, it feels so anticlimactic.
I ended up taking a more northerly route to avoid hurricane refugees. If theres one thing I hate more than poor people its poor people who used to not be poor- they have such self-righteous attitudes of entitlement ;)
Seriously though, I went from Albuquerque to Oklahoma City to Memphis to Pensacola. And all points between. It was unfortunate I didn't get to swing through the heart of Texas and visit Christy, but such is life and even she recognized that I would have gotten bogged down in Austin. I spent my first 2 nights on Pensacola Beach. There was a fair amount of hurricane damage to the houses right on the beach but other than that th area is fine. I'm glad I arrived a few days early to adjust to the heat and humidity. My first run after arriving was just miserable but now I'm adjusting fairly well.
I report on Saturday to start training and I only have internet access here at the Public Library so I can't be certain I'll be online again. If you'd like to talk feel free to give me a call- just remember I'm 2 hours ahead of the West Coast. If not, no sweat. Just wanted to let those of you who read this that I arrived safely, and I'm doing well, if a little bit nervous about what I'm getting myself into.
Take care and I'll post again sometime in... probably December, but maybe a little earlier if our Drill Instructor thinks we've earned liberty.
