Hot Toys Christopher Reeve Superman 1/6" Figure Review

Nov 08, 2012 22:17

So last week my Hot Toys Bespin Luke Skywalker 1/6 Figure set arrived (review HERE) and it was so freaking amazing that I bit the bullet and ordered the Christopher Reeve Superman figure that I've been drooling over forever. I'm glad I did because he's now selling out everywhere. I might've gotten one of the last good deals on him anywhere.

This figure is so beautiful it isn't even funny. I know if my Mom was still around and she saw it, she would've loved it because it perfectly captures Christopher's amazing blue eyes, his chiseled cheekbones and chin, and the body they made for the figure matches his physique.

(Here he is with my custom Smallville Blur/Clark Kent Tom Welling figure)

The figure arrives in a big primary colored box shaped in his shield. There's a blue piece that keeps the box in place for shipping that you flip apart and it becomes the stand for the box. Whenever I move, I'm going to find a place where I can display him like that with the box behind him because I think it makes the figure's display look even more amazing.

Superman comes with his complete costume (underwear included!) a Hot Toys stand, and a special "Fortress of Solitude" ice sculptured stand that you have to assemble. I will tell you - the ice sticks are annoying to fit into their molded spots. If you don't quite get one in right they all fall over. Once they're up - god don't sneeze or shake the ground! The display is cool though because it comes w/ a second elevated stand and you can hoist Superman up and make him fly for being on display.

He comes with 3 sets of hands - the pair he arrives in are balled fists so he can stand in his "Truth Justice and the American Way" stance, a relaxed pair of hands, and a third pair where his fingers are all flat together that mirror Christopher's signature way that he pierced the air when he made Superman fly. Hot Toys hands are kind of annoying to take on and off so I just left the ones on that he arrived wearing.

Overall I'm very pleased. The special edition version of the figure came w/ a chained piece of Kryptonite from Superman the Movie - I'm not heartbroken that I don't have it. Hot Toys made a few other Superman figures in the past - they did a Marlon Brando Jor El and a special 2 figure giftset from "Superman Returns" with a full Brandon Routh Clark Kent & a Superman. Both of these 2 items were limited and go for HUGE dollars on the secondary market so unless I stumble on either by a seller who doesn't know what they are, I likely won't get those ( do rather have good luck on ebay though so who knows, never say never.) BUT I will definitely be ready w/ my checkbook next summer because I can guarantee that Hot Toys will be doing a line for "Man of Steel" - I can bet that their figures for that film will be beautiful as well.
