Oh my god - NBC is run by scared idiots

So I just finished watching the pilot for the new "Wonder Woman." Everything that we were led to believe w/ it being horrific, campy, and downright stupid were WRONG. Go under the cut for my musings.

Onto the "Wonder Woman" pilot. When we heard about the pilot, she had 3 personalities, there was a musical number, and all sorts of other crap. Well she does have 3 personalities, but suprisingly they make sense. If there was one thing that I immediately felt drawn to with Diana was that this was a superhero who lived under a huge umbrella of burden. They referenced that the series is current and that the problems in the US are real - they're not swept under the rug. The world that we live in now is dark and she's a beacon of hope...the cost of that came to her from a personal choice that she made when she broke things off w/ Steve to keep him safe since she was going to expose herself to the world. Right off of the bat, I liked that WW kicked ass and was tough as nails, but she was one lonely woman.

WW's actions are drawn into question - is torture justice? Why is she getting a free reign with her methods?

If there is anything that I could say for it, I think that it might've been a bit too dark which ultimately might've turned people off. Also, the series was produced by Warner Brothers, not Universal so airing it would've been expensive for NBC. That being said, they decided instead to gamble on "The Playboy Club" which they put up against mega-hits "Castle" and "Hawaii 5-0" and it tanked as a result. The only new "sci-fi" series that they picked up was that series "Grimm" which will premiere when "Chuck" returns and from all previews that I've seen of it, it looks like a dim imitation to "Supernatural."

This show would've, could've ended up being a huge hit for female fans. The pilot was VERY female driven without being overly mushy and no sap. Damn it, I'm pissed. There's almost nothing new this Fall that I'm excited about. I like "Person of Interest" and I think that "Secret Circle" will become a guilty pleasure. I'm waiting on "Terra Nova" tomorrow...otherwise, there's Zippo that's new that I'm interested in. "Wonder Woman" would've been fantastic for those of us who grew up w/ "Smallville" and are all a bit on the older side now. WW isn't a teenager, she's an adult superhero. After all of the fear, David E. Kelly got it right, and stupid NBC blinked.

PS if you want to see the pilot, search around online - it's available.
