Back from Vacation

So I just got back from my first Cruise! I have to say that I am officially a cruise person. 7 days on the Carnival Splendor down in Mexico - it was lovely.

I bought boatloads of dramamine and didn't need it. Luckily the waters were pretty smooth for most of the trip and since I'm already a little wobbley - I did fine. Because the ship was so large, I think that I actually came back having, if not lost weight then at the very least I toned up from my trip thanks to extensive walking around the boat and on shore. Next Sept we're going to Alaska on Norweigian. We took my Aunt and Uncle along and they're officially cruise people too. They're going w/ us to Alaska so that will be a blast.

I learned the power of being lazy. On our sea days I spent quite a lot of time reading and napping - hee hee! If you ever cruise and are going somewhere warm I highly recommend getting a balcony room - the balcony's are so nice and cool to read on. I plowed through and finished book 1 of GAME OF THRONES. I have to say that HBO is so doing the series right. The book reads nearly just like the series. The Lannisters get more screentime in the series, which is good because Jaimie gets almost no page time in the first book. There were areas where the series did a great job of filling in holes that weren't explored in the book. I also love that practically all of the dialog was directly inserted into the series - considering Martin wrote for TV many years ago, his writing reads like it was made for TV, even if he never believed that it could be made into a TV series.

A few things that I discovered...didn't realize from the series:

- The commander who Jon is steward to on the Wall is Jorah's father (aka the knight travelling w/ Dany.)
- I believe that the naked blond in Cersei's room was Robert's steward Lancill aka he was one of her cousins (BLECK!)
- I never fully got that Petyr aka Littlefinger aka slimy whorehouse owner who betrayed Ned was once a ward of the Tulleys (Catelyn's family) which is why he was head over heels for her.

They changed a few things from the book, but really not that much. I just started on the second one - I'm already not liking Stannis Baratheon...anywhoo. I've got a bazillion photos to catch up on down/uploading into my photo boards, will need to watch TV and work heavily on the first issue of MV magazine. I'm taking tomorrow off - so at least I can get some stuff done before going back to work :)
