SV Fandumb

I'm about to go on a huge rant here - please don't read if you think that you might be offended.

As much as I love SMALLVILLE, I'm going to be happy when the series is over because I'm tired of listening to the constant moaning and groanings from the folks in it's fandom.

Case in point, yesterday the CW released the above poster for the last 1/2 of the season. Immediately, people became rabid against it. Why use Brandon Routh/SR promo photos? Why use a Season 6 photo? Bitch, bitch, moan, moan. Hello....the series is 10 years old, the fact that we even GOT a poster should be celebrated. Look at poor ONE TREE HILL - there is hardly ever ANY promotion for that series. I'm sure that it's fans would be thrilled for any sort of promotion of their series.

Today someone over at the CW accidentally mis-coded a picture on a page on their site and put a picture of OTH cast in the place of SV and everyone went bezerk. Man, I accidentally get my HTML coding wrong all of the time and have to fix things on my site, accept the fact that people make mistakes and don't take it as a personal attack on a fandom. Once the CW was aware of the problem - they fixed it.

As much as the CW does rather suck, at least we got 10 years of the series. If SV had been on ANY other network, it would've been off of the air long ago. No other network would support a series that costs probably 2+ million an ep that only brings in 2.7 million (average) viewers a week.

I spent my time in deep hatred zone for the series during the Goughlar years and I refuse to spew negativity about it or the CW anymore. Why? Because for all that the network is focusing their marketing budgets on their new shows, they agreed to allow the series to go out with full closure. How often do older series just get canceled and there's no ultimate finale to send them off?

I still have my own suspicions on why things are unraveling the way that they are:

1) We haven't gotten a photoshoot of Tom in a suit because I still believe that he's going to be MAN OF STEEL. There've been rumors that a large casting call has gone out for Superman/Clark - however, no buzz anywhere that anyone has ACTUALLY auditioned for the role.
2) They announced that MOS would be shot in Vancouver.
3) The SV creative staff is working on the last 5 episodes now. It's unheard of that any series would be looking to wrap up their series this early in winter. Also Geoff Johns (head of creative endeavors at DC/WB) is there helping them to craft the last eps.
4) Brian and Kelly said early on that the finale wasn't set it stone because they had to wait on word about MOS. Why should that even matter if SV and MOS are 2 different entities? Snyder said MOS wouldn't be based on any of the previous films or comic book series. He completely omitted mentioning TV or SV. I guess you could argue that he thinks of it as a non-entity, but I don't think so. SV's been on for 10 years, it's impossible to just dismiss or ignore.
5) WB would save a bundle by allowing Snyder's team to go in and update/reuse the Smallville sets.
6) If Tom in fact is going to be in MOS, they're likely waiting on the suit because Snyder's creative team will likely need to design it first. I'm predicting that we'll get a huge photoshoot of Tom in the suit and the pics will end up on all of the magazines for the finale and at the time we'll get the announcement that he's going to be Superman. Buzz will be huge.
7) MOS doesn't have to pick up right where SV ends, but can use some of its pre-existing mythology in order to act as the foundation for the new films.

This all could be wishful thinking, but I just don't think so. Tom's gotten screwed out of films in the past (SR & JLA) WB owes him. They'll be done shooting with plenty of time so that Tom can go right into the film - the timing is all designed for an easy, transition for him to step into the new project. I'm still hoping that Erica gets to go along for the ride. I hope that the fact that she ended up passing on Ecstasy is proof that she's got other things on the horizon. All Lois "casting" rumors have been confirmed as just that - rumors. WB has mentioned that they'd be interested in seeing Justin in the DALLAS remake - they're taking care of their SV cast. I just can't see that they'll leave Tom & Erica dangling in the wind.

As for all of the bru-ha-ha about Chloe's return. I wish everyone would relax.
A) We knew it was coming. Chloe isn't blahna, so we won't have to worry about her stealing Clark's balls. Oliver has already lost his - maybe he'll get them back when she leaves.
B) Chloe's been on the show since day 1 and her fans have had to wait for her return. It's understandable that we'd be getting spoilers about her. She's only back for 4 episodes, and contrary to what people think the eps will not entirely revolve around her. If we see a lot of screentime for her, oh well - Mack has been on the series since day 1, like it or not, she does deserve a big sendoff.

*Sigh* There's just no point to freaking out over every little thing.
