So, two episodes in and it feels like we're back to normal.
Normal, being, let's just ignore Season 3's bad episodes. I didn't mind the fleet being stuck on New Caprica, I minded the horrible flashback episodes we had to endure up to and after Starbuck's death.
Who is and isn't a Cylon? Friend or Foe?
This theme is what Season 1/2 so good and now it returns too close to home. And, more than one plot going on! This is what made this show so good in the first season. The constant switching back and forth between Caprica and Galactica.
The theme of repetition not only hits the humans but the Cylons. This time with the final 5 and the fact all the Cylons including the Skinjobs have been ordered not to think about them.
This little nugget is interesting in the fact that, why not think about them? What was so bad that they erase their own history and why box five units that haven't shown up anywhere else. An uprising? An insurrection between two Cylon factions? Did the 5 put this uprising down or were they part of it? And, if they all died, someone on the inside knows.
Now, granted, this final five thang came to the forefront towards the end of third season and thus may have been an after thought by the writers or maybe they knew since the beginning. I tend to stay away from spoilers.
This final five brings up a good question: Who is Harvey 6 and Harvey Baltar?
Obviously someone is controlling Caprica 6 and Baltar, they aren't delusional, their psyche’s aren't cracked, someone is sending a signal to them and Galactica in their "let's not embrace technology" mantra just haven't picked up on the signals yet.
The reason why I say they aren't delusional or psychotic break is simple:
1. Space Flight.
2. Space Ships.
3. Cylon Re-incarnation.
4. FTL Flight.
5. And, because Baltar actually saw himself instead of Harvey 6.
Reasons 1-4 rule out being delusional and the whole crazy aspect just doesn't work for me. Some sort of FTL transmitter does work for me.
So, going on the assumption that someone is controlling both sides, figure each of the 12 models are somewhere else and Harvey 6 was busy. With what, we dunno. Maybe, the insurrection on the Base Star regarding the Raiders.
All in all, it's a good start to the end. I wouldn't mind seeing a Caprica spin-off show if this season ends well.
