The fury that swelled up in Kenshin when he saw how Enishi invaded Kaoru’s space was unprecedented. The way it ticked off his warning bells had him internally cursing. The Esper was treating Kaoru like a slave, live a piece of his property and it just made him seethe internally.
It shouldn’t be like that.
Kaoru was so nice, her smile so radiant…but right now she was subdued. Her movements, her glances and stance careful as if trying to maintain her cool and stay by Enishi.
She was trying to please him and it only made Kenshin the angrier.
Kaoru was supposed to fight, to flee. Perhaps she could cry, whine or plead for help…but not this. This force submission, this resignation and acceptance of what could not be changed made her look weak and fragile. A few days ago she was probably one of the persons he thought to be strongest in this world…but now…she seemed like a helpless human. That would simply not do.
“I will help Tomoe,” Kenshin said suddenly drawing the attention of everyone in the field. His eyes shifted to gold and he kept his stare firm and his chin held high.
“Oh… but this is a challenge between females. I doubt you want a place on my bed,” mocked Enishi with a lopsided grin.
Kenshin smirked as well. “Of course not. Besides, Tomoe wants to spend some of her human life with you…I want the same with Kaoru. So…if we defeat Kaoru…we win.”
Enishi’s aqua eyes narrowed in displeasure and he glanced a few moment at Kaoru’s back. “Very well. You may help Tomoe but only Kaoru can decide if she wishes to spend any time with you. I will only add a condition… you may not father any child with Kaoru… or I will kill you all.”
A heavy silence fell over the four of them until Kenshin finally released the breath he was holding and declared, “I accept.”
