Kaoru was sitting on a plastic chair at the balcony. There was restlessness in the air, the softest fragrance of blood and magic. She knew he was stalking her. Dimly she debated what she ought to do. Should she go meet him?
She knew she was no match for the male Esper.
Her family had been respectably peaceful. In the other hand, Enishi’s was a family of war, conquest and blood. He polished his abilities to perfection while she lazed around all day.
This was all her fault. She should have known better. One day she was going to meet someone like him. She should have trained more.
It was useless to wonder the ‘what if’s’ now. It was too late.
A small breeze carrying the musky and sweet scent of an Esper reached her nostrils and Kaoru inwardly cringed. Her blue eyes observed the buildings around her but to her dismay there was no trace of her white haired nemesis.
With a sigh, she turned back to the apartment. “Kenshin?”
The redhead hummed from his desk where he read a file for a new case. His long strands of hair were tied in a neat low ponytail and he was wearing a simple, faded blue shirt and black exercise pants. When Kaoru didn’t reply he turned to her with a frown, his purple eyes staring at her behind eye glasses.
Kaoru raised an eyebrow involuntary, “You have problems reading?” she asked curiously.
“No,” Kenshin replied slowly, “My eyes hurt if I overuse my second sight.”
Kaoru nodded and smiled. “I want ice cream.”
Kenshin frowned and sighed, “I will buy some,” he said with a gentle smile, “I’ll be back in five.”
Kaoru nodded and watched him go. She knew he wouldn’t find her when he returned.
