In the land of big iron

As some of you are aware i am currently on holiday in the good old U S of A. Having said that the town i grew up in has a bridge older than this country, but i digress. The point i would like to address is that of driving in the land that brought us the model t, edsell and of course the charger ('68 in orange). The roads here suck. There are some nice ones, i enjoyed being in the catskills, but they do have issues.
Firstly, they are overactive with the speed limit changes, as if they did not trust people to decide how fast was safe. They are also inconsistent. What else, catseyes! The road markings are quite hard to see in the damp. Finally signs. Too many and too hard to read. We had an example today where the speed limit sign was blocked by the mile marker.
