1.) Where did you ring in 2006?
At a party hosted by the lovely and gracious
britgeekgirl.
2.) What was your status by Valentine's Day?
Same as the last several... single and loathing the holiday.
3.) Were you in school (anytime this year)?
No, but I'm getting itchy to be learnin' again.
4.) How did you earn your keep?
Heh. The first of several loaded and inter-connected questions. The first three weeks I was still with Tellme, prior to being laid off. The last three weeks have been with the new company,
Topix.net. In between was much contracting and gnashing of teeth. (Not to mention tightening-of-belt.)
5.) Did you have to go to the hospital?
For the first time in ages. In January, I had my first broken bone ever, in my left foot. The headache that yielded over the first half of 2006 is truly epic in scope.
6.) Did you have any encounters with the police?
I rarely if ever do.
7.) Where did you go on vacation?
Depending on your definition, most of 2006 was a vacation of sorts, given my spotty employment. But the closest to a vacation would have been going to the
IPMS/USA National Convention in Kansas City in August. No, not my first choice of locales for a vacation...
8.) What did you purchase that was over $500?
I'm not sure I had any purchases that high.
9.) Did you know anybody who got married?
A Russian friend in my local modeling club. Got invited to the reception. Man, that was off the hook... I really don't remember much of the later part of the evening, and I don't usually drink that much...
10.) Did you know anybody who passed away?
Thankfully no.
11.) Have you run into anybody you graduated high school with?
Yes, but only because this year was my 20-year high school reunion, back in OKC. And since I was still in the country (ahem) I was able to attend.
12.) Did you move anywhere?
Hoo-boy, is this one loaded. I spent most of 2006 expecting to move to London (England, not Ontario). I left the bay area in May, expecting to stay in Denver for 4-8 weeks while work permit and such was obtained. 8 months later, I moved back to the bay area to take the new job. I managed to spend a whopping 4 days in London in November, for a job interview, but that was it. I now have a new apartment, and damn near nothing in it. Thinking I was moving overseas, I gave away or sold almost everything I owned... dishes, pots and pans, microwave, TV, etc. All of which I am now in the process of gradually replacing.
13.) What sporting events did you go to?
I rarely do, but this year I happened to take in a Colorado Rockies game. They lost.
14.) What concerts/shows did you go to?
I saw Corteo, by Cirque du Soleil. It was the most amazing fucking thing I've ever seen. Period.
15.) Are you registered to vote?
I switched my registration to Colorado in plenty of time for the elections.
16.) If so, did you do your patriotic duty on Nov. 7?
Absolutely. And those homophobic fuckwits in the more rural parts of Colorado succeeded in passing anti-gay legislation again, despite what I thought would happen. Fucking
1992 all over again.
17.) Where do you live now?
Sunnyvale, California. 5 miles from my office, about 10 miles from where I lived up until May.
18.) Describe your birthday.
Oddly, I don't remember it that clearly. Not that I drank, but I think it was just a quiet outing with friends.
palecur and I have birthdays exactly one week apart, and lots of common friends, so we usually celebrate together. I presume that's what happened...
19.) What's the one thing you thought you would never do but did in 2006?
Six shots of vodka in the span of a few hours.
20.) What is one thing you regret from this year?
It would be easy to say that I regret turning down the "Dream Job" opportunity in London. I do, to some degree. But the main regret from this past year was letting myself go completely to hell during the time in Denver, out of despair and depression over the London situation and the way I was being strung along. I wish I'd kept my shit together a little better than I did. A lot better.
21.) What do you want for Christmas?
Hmm... didn't see this until the day after. So I'll wish for good weather and an uneventful journey getting the rest of my belongings from Denver to Sunnyvale by the 31st.
22.) Any new additions to your family?
Not that I know of...
23.) What was your best month?
Probably November. That was the Month of Many Interviews, in which I went to the bay area, went to London, went to a major scale modeling show in the UK, visited my mom for Thanksgiving, and chose the job that I now am working at.
24.) What from pop culture will you remember 2006 by?
"K-Fed"-turned-"Fed-Ex" being informed of his divorce by text message. I have no interest in that white-trash couple, really, but that was just cold. You really have to appreciate the disdain she felt, to break the news that way. This, and how surprisingly-good "Heroes" has turned out to be.
25.) How do you plan to ring in 2007?
I have no idea as of yet. I'll be happy just to get back to the bay area by mid-day on the 31st, and not be stuck somewhere along the way in a U-Haul.
