Not Today

There is a new challenge at ds_flashfiction, but I am not doing it. Not today, at least. Or, really, not at this moment. I have sekrit santa to write for, which I haven't done nearly enough of. I know what's going to happen, I have a good start on it, but... it's just not happening. Today is not a good day for it.

I went to Chicago yesterday, because I drove a friend to the airport. Three hours to get there, taking the Indiana Toll Road/I-90, all the way to O'Hare. Took a second friend with me so we could shop. If you go to Chicago and like music, go to the Virgin Megastore on N. Michigan Ave. It's huge. Overpowering, really, when I'm used to stores that have no selection outside of pop or rap. I have not a problem with either except they're both tiring after too long.

But the VMS had vinyl. Which made me cry and wish so hard I had a needle for my player. It's very sad. On the bright side, I now know where to find such records should I want them.

Had a shrimp scampi pizza at the California Pizza Kitchen while I and the friend ogled the lovely, spiky-haired waiter across the restaurant. Definitely pettable, though most likely not lick-worthy. The leftovers went to a man who had previously asked me for change when I had none. I figured pizza was better than coffee, especially that pizza.

We did little else while in Chicago. The magnificent Mile was... well, long and cold and expensive. It's a lovely place to window-shop, but definitely not fruitful on the gifts-needed front.

I do have to admit now that, after having driven my little manual transmission Kia around Chicago for the better part of a day, I do like to drive in Chicago. It's actually fun. I owe my little sister over ten dollars because of my vocabulary (a quarter per cuss word,) but it made me feel good that I could be as crazy as everyone else. I was only honked at once which I think is very good. ^__^

I'm looking forward to going back in the summer.
