Testing?

I've just been through about 48 hours of not being able to post or even comment, and Blogger wouldn't let me post either, so I am feeling a wee bit vulnerable just now.

If it was a virus or a trojan as cesario suggested, I ran several scans and never found it. But this morning it got so bad that I couldn't connect to the Internet at all, so I restarted ( Read more... )

Well, this is the post I originally composed to put on my blog after I found I couldn't access LJ (but then found out I couldn't post to Blogger either, so the point was kind of moot):

For the last 36 hours I have been unable to post anything to LiveJournal, either using the Semagic client or through the "My LJ" page. It won't let me post comments in other people's journals either -- it just hangs for about two minutes and then gives me a "server returned an invalid or unrecognized response" error message.

cesario suggested it might be a virus, since she had a similar problem a while back where she was locked out of her webmail. I've run my usual virus checker, AVG, but it came back empty. I also downloaded and ran a-squared looking for trojans. No dice. I tried using an online virus checker from Trend Micro, but it told me it couldn't install the necessary software on my system to run properly.

I've restarted Semagic, rebooted the computer multiple times... still the same problem with LiveJournal. And so far, at least as far as I've been able to tell, it's only LiveJournal that has this problem, and nobody else that I know of on LJ has been complaining about not being able to post, so it's got to be on my end and not theirs.

Help? Anyone?

Hmmm... So for a while you were still able to download stuff from other places, eh?

Dunno. I get weird spells 2 or 3 times a day when everything using the network stops working except (usually) Azureus, and then a while later everything comes back... except about once every 2 or 3 days, when I have to reboot to get everything working again. I suspect there's something fundamentally buggy in the low-to-mid-level bits of the comms stack that come with Windows 2k, myself... =:o\
