LOST: "The Whole Truth"
*has just finished watching the episode one minute ago, is still trying to pick jaw up off the ground*
THIS IS THE BESTEST SHOW IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE EVAR.
(Except for Doctor Who, but that goes without saying. Or should, anyway.)
Is it wrong that with this episode I'm starting to really like a) Ana-Lucia; b) Charlie; c) Henry Gale? I didn't think it was possible for me to like any of them -- especially not Charlie, whom I liked once upon a time, but haven't liked in ages. But I have to love the way that the writers are totally subverting my expectations for the series. I never thought I'd enjoy seeing Sayid, Ana-Lucia and Charlie hiking across the island together and snarking at each other, but it was great.
I love the way that Jack and Locke are losing control of the Lostaways, and that the others are standing up and taking ownership. I love the way that Henry mocks Jack and Locke for not asking enough questions -- yeah, it's totally "You can't fire me, I quit" kind of stuff on the part of the writers, but hey, at least they're self-aware. Also, I don't know if there are any people on my f-list who are familiar with both Lost and the Asterix books, but doesn't Henry Gale remind you of Torturous Convolvulus from Asterix and the Roman Agent? I swear, every time he opens his mouth, Jack and Locke's word balloons turn green.
I love the fact that the Sun and Jin story (and man, were Yunjin Kim and Daniel Dae-Kim acting their faces off in this episode -- I already knew they were good, but this was great stuff) totally blindsided me as well -- I did foresee him being the fertility problem and not her, but I thought she was going to have to confess to an affair and then they pulled out the "island miracle" thing again instead (although it's still left ambiguous as to whether Sun was telling the truth or not).
And I love that Sawyer was reading Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret, not because I like Judy Blume at all or ever did, but just the sheer comedy value of it. I needed a dose of Sawyer comic relief after all the nasty weaseliness he's been showing the last few episodes.
Have I said enough times that I love this show? I love this show. Especially now that Locke has shaved again, because I'm shallow like that, but that ugly stubble was really getting to me.
