First, one that I took on my own and scored a frightening 110% on -- I did miss a few songs along the way, but I made up for those losses by getting most of the obscure (and therefore higher-scored) answers plus a couple of bonus questions.
Now for the really fun lyrics quiz, and as Dora the Explorer would say, "We need your help!" Created as part of this year's MIT Mystery Hunt by the perennially clever and witty
callyperry, it's a quiz called "
Denial". And since it was designed to be solved by a group, I'm asking my f-list to help me out.
Supplied on
this page are a number of made-up indignant responses to famous song lyrics. You have to guess the song by looking at the response. For instance, the first denial on the list, "I'm entirely humble, and I think this song is probably about one of your wealthier exes." is a response to Carly Simon's "You're so vain / you probably think this song is about you..."
I think that #6 is "[It was a one-eyed, one-horned, flying] Purple People Eater", but I could be wrong. #7 is "Do Your Ears Hang Low" (to use the more euphemistic version); #8 is "My Darling Clementine", #12 is "Every Breath You Take", and #16 is "You Can't Always Get What You Want". Apart from that, though, I'm pretty much stumped.
So... anyone on my f-list care to comment with your guesses?
ETA:
Got another one! #24 is "Your mama don't dance / and your daddy don't rock n' roll". Strangely, my brain sort of mushed this (apparently a Kenny Loggins tune) together with Burton Cummings' "My Own Way To Rock". Which would actually have been a much better song, come to think of it...
