Naruto's body was a barely contained ball of excitement and anticipation. He was so excited about getting a puppy he hadn't even though about ramen once that day. For Uzumaki Naruto, not eating ramen, not wanting or thinking or dreaming or craving ramen was a very big deal.

But so was getting a puppy.

Unlike people, animals weren't fickle. They didn't pretend to like you and then talk about you behind your back. They weren't mean to you sometimes and nice to you at other times. No, animals were always straight foreward. Either they liked you or they didn't. There werent any grey areas when it came to animals.

And Naruto knew the puppy he wanted liked him. It had barked and yipped and chased its tail and jumped against the glass of the pet shop so excitedly when Naruto had passed by the other day. There was no doubt in his mind: that puppy wanted him and he wanted it.

When he saw the owner of the shop holding the puppy in question, however, he felt his stomach tighten. Someone must be purchasing it! Oh no! He was too late!

Sakura dashed ahead to hug the owner and introduce them and Naruto walked slowly towards them, following behind Himawari.

"Ano sa, ano sa," he said, once Himawari had introduced herself. "That puppy, you haven't sold it yet, have you?"

Subaru turned to look at Naruto, smiling. "Nope. He's owner-free. Oph," he said as the puppy finally jumped from his arms to jump on Naruto, licking his face happily and whimpering in excitement.

"He seems to really like you. Would you like to buy him?" he asked, already knowing the answer.
