My progress in Borås

Feb 19, 2009 19:24

Up to now the lectures and clinical practice is going smoothly, there's no significant problem at all. I got NICU / Neonatal Ward for my pediatric practice in Södra Älvsborgs Sjukhus, the hospital here.

I've been there almost 3 weeks and this week is my last week in Pediatrics Course. At the beginning of the practice, i was quite surprised with the work shift system they had here, especially the morning shift. Morning shift at 6.45-16.00, evening shift at 15.00-22.00 and night shift at 22.00-7.15. The sun haven't even rise when the morning shift begin. Gezzz...!!

This is my first time in pediatrics practice... and i was given a direct opportunity to hold a newborn baby, change nappies, feed the premature and prepare the medicine. Yay!! I've never touch a baby before. It was so exciting and..hearthtrobbing. I feel...weird. Fortunately my mentor is really kind (haha... she's so patience, understanding and answering all my strange questions). My mentor also shows me the Maternity Ward (förlossning), Maternal Surgery and the Children Ward.

I also get into children's Daily Care Unit. Their job is to prepare children who's gonna get some painful treatment or undergo some surgery. I also follow the Play Therapist and play with children who will undergo CT-Scan and Lumbal Puncture.

Today i have seminars on campus. We talk about what we already met in the hospital, if there are differences with the theory, or there is something which interesting to discuss plus report our daily activities in our wards. The discussion is quite exciting because even though some Swedish students quite shy to speak in English, they are very curious and always ask about what they wanna know...especially to me (!!) because i'm the only student from abroad in this seminar. The Costa Rican get their seminars next day. Hopefully i didn't give wrong impression about pediatric nursing in Indonesia T ~ T.

This sunday (Feb 22th), i must collect my examination paper. In this paper we shall discuss about how nurses prepare children who will undergo painful procedures, what if there are suspected cases of child abuse, how if the patient came from a different culture and they do not speak Swedish and what is nurse role in helping families with disable child.

Anyway, the weather in Borås start to get more crazy T ~ T.
Snow Flurries start from yesterday evening until...now.
