New job!

Jan 11, 2010 13:50

So, I got offered a new job today!  They offered me $1 more than the highest starting pay normally gets.  This is especially funny because my main downside to the job was the highest starting pay was still $1 an hour under what I was shooting for to make and now I'll be making my goal rate!  I am so glad I turned down all those jobs for less than I wanted to make now.  I knew what I was worth and now I get to earn it.  Plus, there's no evenings or weekends and they have tuition reimbursement.   This means I'll be able to finish the schooling I need for my make-up career and start scheduling makeup jobs on the weekends (probably mostly proms and weddings starting off).  I'm pretty much beyond excited about this.  It's basically the perfect job for me right now.  Steady, decent pay, set schedule with the perfect hours.  Also, I get all benefits starting right away including health, vision and dental.... and I get something like 2-3 weeks vacation a year STARTING this first year!!  Ummmm... yes please?!

Also, I start Monday which means I have one last week before work starts.  And this week is actually going to feel like a week of vacation cause the pressure of looking for a job is gone.

Christian started his first day of his job today.  He msged me not too long ago saying he was really enjoying it, which makes me so happy.  I'm so glad that he's starting out after school going right into sculpting.  For him it's a dream come true even if it's not for the film industry.  He'll get their eventually.  After we've had some time to pay off a good portion of our student loans... and probably save up enough money to buy our first home.  And by then his portfolio will be that much more impressive (as I know him well enough to know he won't stop pet projects on the side) so that he'll be able to get a shop job sculpting!!

Christian and I are making about the same amount now!  Which is really nice because it makes it all the easier for our money to be combined, which is really the most convenient option.  And our money has been combined long enough now where it seems weird to separate out our finances and worry about "splitting bills" and the such.  We're really happy living the life style we've been living and so (with the exception of trying to see more films in the theater and one meal out a month or so) I think we'll continue living at about this same budget so we can really boost our payments on our student loans and stash as much as we can possibly shove into savings each month.

It really just feels nice to know that we're secure now.  We've made it out here, gotten jobs where we make enough to be comfortable, and don't have a lot of other worries or cares in the world.    I'm really forward to continue focusing and working towards are goals. :)

the future, job hunting, job, money, christian
