Yeah, yeah, long time since the last update.
Went to Esperance Crown War this last weekend. Had a great time, even though the heat just about killed me. Sir Cagar continues to think up fun and imaginative scenarios. Also participated in Squire, erm, Sir Logan's knighting. (That's going to be confusing for a while, given the other Sir Logan to the south.) It was well-done, and I'm proud of him. Makes me a bit nervous for my own Ever-Impending Doom, however, in an undefinable way.
Also went to the wedding of
xora_reyn and
dsrphoenix the weekend before that. I had a good time, and enjoyed the festivities among my friends. I noted that I may have been the only single adult male there (unless some were hiding from the garter toss >_>). A lot of other married couples.
A thought occurred to me, following this wedding, and also having come to mind after this last war. There's something I've found in Adria that I never expected to find here: Good, Solid Marriages. Of course, I'm not implying that every marriage or relationship in Adria is such, but I've found a surprisingly large amount of them here.
Now, my parents divorced when I was seven, and even beyond that time, I've seen a lot of divorce and heartbreak. I've seen entirely too many marriages slapped together for a number of stupid reasons ("I'm too big for a condom." chiefly among these. *facepalm*), marriages that just don't last. For a long time, this made me somewhat pessimistic about the notion of romance and love. Being in Adria, and seeing these solid, well-founded marriages, shows me what's possible. We can find people that really do match us on a fundamental level. Sure, there might be some wiggle room, but the pairings make sense, and their constituent parts complement each other.
It was good for me to be at that wedding, witnessing the joining of two of my friends, adding to that pool of examples. It makes me happy.
