Vacation Update
So, we took a day off of running around crazily today, so I actually sprung for the $10 for internet access. It occurred to me partway through the week that I could write entries and save them for later, and I made one such entry (for my TMI list), but it's fairly insubstantial.
The flight was okay. A bit bumpy towards the end. The humidity, even at 9PM local hit me like a ton of bricks. It took me a couple days to get used to it. Flossie pretty much stayed south. By the next morning it was no longer a hurricane, although the beaches were supposedly closed. (They weren't.)
Spent a couple days visiting various beaches and snorkeling and boogie boarding. I haven't got much of a tan, still. Yesterday we hired a boat for 12 hours to go fishing and whatnot. About an hour in, my dad hooked a marlin. I saw it jump out of the water just after it grabbed the lure. It was goddamned massive, like a small whale. My dad fought with it for about 4 hours, the last 2 of which it was almost up to us. It was a back and forth battle for that time. Give and take, give and take. The deckhand had his hand on the leader 3 times, but then the marlin would freak out and run. The captain estimated it at about 16', 1400 pounds. At just before the 4 hour mark, my dad pulled up on just the wrong part of the line, and a knot came undone, and we lost the thing.
After that we visited the Captain Cook monument, and did some snorkeling around it, then went back. I got the most sun from that. The closest thing I got to a tan was the burns I got on my face and arms from before I put the sunscreen on. Bleh.
