Let's start off with the kinda weird:
Just got a message from a person who wants to translate one of my fics (Sacrament) into Russian, and I'm not too sure how to reply. On the one hand, the offer is flattering, and I'm not opposed to making it more accessible to those who don't speak my language. On the other, I don't speak Russian, so I feel like I'm relinquishing a certain amount of control there. On the other, other hand, the translator could have just gone off and done it and not said anything. Opinions?
Having a bit of an off day, got a not so nice comment on a fic (why do people take the time to be mean?), and intellectually, I know it should be taken with a grain of salt. But...well. You know.
However, just as I was settling into a fannish funk, insmallpackages opened for business. This is the part where I get all sappy, because scrolling through those comments, and seeing fandom's generosity really did the trick. So go, if you have the time, and make someone's day a little brighter.
Also, in the good and better category: everything with wings is restless. An amazing Sam/Dean AU by oddishly. Summary: The upsides of working a travelling double act with your brother bear a remarkably close resemblance to the downsides. Namely: you travel around the country with your brother (plus one white rabbit) in a big-ass black caravan, and you (sometimes) get paid for it.
This fic. Wow. Stunningly visual and atmospheric writing, amazing concept, sexy and mysterious, spot-on characterization served up with a side order of magic.
