So, having finished Anansi Boys I was forced to choose a new book to read. It was a little difficult. I wanted to read something that I hadn't read before but as I was browsing my (overflowing) bookshelf the ones that kept catching my attention were the ones I had already read. I compromised. I took one new read, one that I read once ages and ages ago, and one that is a treasured companion, put them in my bag and went to work. On my first break I pulled them all out and looked at them and put away the new one, and tried to begin the once-read but put it away after only a few pages and pulled out the treasured favorite. The Riddle Master of Hed by Patricia McKillip. My mom shares my love of this book. So much so that she wore out one copy, rebound it, and then wore it out again, and so I bought it for her as a present a couple of years ago, which made her very happy. Hers is a single volume edition, I own it in its original trilogy format with the individual short novels titled The Riddle Master of Hed, Heir of Sea and Fire, and Harpist in the Wind. McKillip is one of my favorite authors, but one that I often forget to mention when listing off my favorites. She has a way of writing that draws you in so subtly with a perfect balance of description and introduction and plottiness. Other books of hers that I have read (and loved) are The Sorceress and the Cygnet and The Cygnet and the Firebird. I have been told that there is a third book to that setting, but I don't know that I have ever seen it. My mother loves The Book of Atrix Wolfe but I have yet to read it, though I have borrowed and it is currently sitting on my shelf.

Anyway, somehow I have turned into a book blog, at least partially, through no intention of my own. I promise, someday I will make a post about something else. ;-) Work sucks, we have a huge walk through tomorrow, I have very little social life, absolutely no love life, and very few activities other than reading, writing, and gaming. I did get on Guild Wars yesterday for a couple hours. I would get on tonight only I have to work at ten tomorrow and I don't want to get involved. Also, I want to read.
