My long weekend

So, some of you knew, some of you didn't, that I was going to the coast this last weekend. It was good, I spent an eight-nine hour drive with my parents, my brother, and his girlfriend, and nobody died, which is good. The coast (Seaside/Gearheart) was pretty. Chilly, but the sun was out except for the drive over, the wind blew, and it was awesome. Someday I am going to live on the Oregon coast. Or at least own a house/condo on it for getaway purposes.

But yeah. The dedication ceremony (which was the reason we went) was interesting, and a little boring. Our family (extended) donated a granite bench to the art center in gearheart. My great-aunt Jo lived in Seaside and Gearheart, was a retired middle school art teacher and was a member of the art center. She died of cancer about three years ago. But yeah...all in all it was a good weekend. My mom was a little grumpy on the drive home, because my dad drives and doesn't stop when he is long-distance driving. It is annoying and frustrates those of us who like to stop and go to the bathroom or get a snack every once in a while. But we survived.

My mom also informed me that when she dies we are only allowed to have one funeral for her...Aunt Jo has now had three. At least. She was cremated, and they had a funeral/memorial service for her in Seaside, and then they had one in Homedale, where she grew up and my great grandma lives. And this one makes three, unless I'm missing one. My mom thought it was slightly ridiculous, but that's ok. We're fairly certain that "the Sisters" are trying to compete with each other unconciously (as well as conciously). They are always doing something to show the others up. The five sisters: Donna (my gma), Shirly, twins Jo(Joan[jo-ann]) and Judy, and Bobby(Roberta). They are insane, and have only gotten more insane as time goes by.
