Perfection personified: aftermath of the Maroon 5 concert

May 24, 2011 23:04

So I attended the Maroon 5 concert last night at the SMX Convention Center. I was with Jyle, Norwin and Wanna, and sorta with Marji, Gabe and Gabe's brother.

I have to say that I have been looking forward to this concert for months. I think I found out about it around December or January, and I got to bargain for the tickets a few days after I found out I'd passed the LAE (which was around Feb). By the end of March, I had Maroon 5 music constantly playing - in my car, on my iTunes, even in the bathroom.

Anyway. I was in MOA already by 2pm because my car was coding and I had to get there by 3pm at the latest. (Yes I drove to MOA with my Maroon 5 CD playing.) So I roamed around a bit while waiting. Marji texted at around 320 that she was coming. By around 4pm Jyle called and said that they were already in MOA. At around the same time, Marji texted and said they were already lined up at the SMX. I met up with Jyle, Norwin and Wanna and we walked to SMX together. We found Marji and Gabe, asked them to save us seats once inside, then we lined up. There were about 100 people in front of Marj and Gabe and about 50 people from their point in the line to ours. This was before 430pm. The concert was scheduled at 8pm.

We finally got to enter the SMX at around 6pm. We were getting kinda hungry so Jyle and I bought insanely overpriced food from the McDo stall. A little later, Marji came and handed us a box of pizza. She bought it daw for us as a birthday treat. I told Jyle, "Sana pala di muna tayo kumain." Grepa.

By around 7ish, Kai texted to ask where we were. Apparently she had gotten free tickets to the concert from the office, though she didn't know yet what section the tickets were for. We agreed to meet up either before or after the show.

By 8pm, the hall was already full. I kinda feared that the Gold B section would end up being SRO since I could kinda see people just standing in the middle of the aisles. In all fairness, I thought the hall wouldn't be filled because of the rumored bad ticket sales. (We had a feeling it kinda was bad, since they were still selling tickets right outside the doors.)

The band emerged at around 830pm. Before the show started, Jyle and I were trying to guess what song they'd open with, and we both ended up being right - they opened with Misery. And from that moment on, it was just plain PERFECTION. Adam Levine is officially the sexiest man alive for me. Aside from his awesome voice (which sounds exactly the way it does on the record) and his sexy hip-swaying moves and his incredibly toned arms, his guitar solos were just mind-blowing!

Every time he'd pick up his guitar, like in the moment captured above, I'd scream like crazy. (Photo credit: IndiEvents) I practically screamed my ass off the entire concert. Wala pang kalahati, masakit na lalamunan ko sa kakasigaw.

Hands down, it was the most amazing concert I'd ever been to. Adam is a total performer. He isn't just a singer or an instrumentalist; he really goes out and connects with the audience. The audience's energy was likewise amazing. I felt like the people in the audience were really Maroon 5 fans and not some posers so just listened to a few songs and decided to attend the concert just so they can brag to their friends about it. And I think the band felt it too.
Though, I have to admit, medyo nabitin ako. I was honestly expecting more songs from the Hands All Over album. Though natuwa naman ako that they played a lot from their previous albums as well. But I really really reeeaaally wanted to hear How. Jyle, Norwin and I were all waiting for Just A Feeling. Jyle wanted to hear Runaway and Gotten (though hindi na ako masyado umasa sa Gotten kasi si Adam lang naman yun with Slash). You get the picture. But still! It was fucking amaaaazing!

After the concert, we saw Kai for a few seconds outside the hall. We originally intended to go drinking after the show but since we hadn't had a proper meal, we were all hungry and decided to eat real food. Unfortunately, it was late and there were practically no more shops or restaurants open in MOA. Inikot na namin halos buong mall. We decided to go to Blue Wave instead to eat.

I got home past 1am. I had some explaining to do to my mother, who didn't appreciate my coming home at that hour, but hell, whatever. It was Adam Levine, it was Maroon 5, and it was just plain fucking awesome. ♥

* * * * *

Maroon 5's set list last night (I got this from Manila Concert Scene). Norwin had already memorized this but Jyle and I threatened to beat him up if he said anything so he shut up about it the entire night. :p
Misery
If I Never See Your Face
Harder to Breathe
Give A Little More
The Sun
Won't Go Home Without You
Never Gonna Leave This Bed (At this point, Marji was like, "Okay na 'ko, kinanta na nila Never Gonna Leave This Bed.")
If I Ain't Got You
She Will Be Loved (with audience participation) (At this point, it was my turn to say, "Okay na 'ko.")
Wake Up Call
Shiver (Pinag-awayan pa namin ni Norwin kung anong title nito before they got to the chorus.)
Stutter
This Love (At this point, it was Norwin's turn to say, "Okay na 'ko.")
Sweetest Goodbye
Encore: Hands All Over, Makes Me Wonder, Sunday Morning

As you can see from the set list, they performed the most songs from the first album - something I didn't expect (since it was the Hands All Over tour, after all). But whatever. Again, bottom line is, they were amazing.
