I like the description of beauty standards changing! I like the description of Nai in relation to her siblings. And I'm really happy Hu is looking into things.

Yes, he is, isn't he and she probably won't - she'd believe him if he said he'd paid attention to stuff other than dates in history class.

I do wonder if he collected those postcards back then, and if he had one of Great-Grandmother Gao. :)

Nai and Hu and Ruh and sibs are great-great-grandchildren of a Reincarnated Scholar, not great-grandchildren, so great-grandmother Gao was presumably not the Reincarnated Scholar's wife, though she might have been his daughter or daughter-in-law, if that's the right branch of the family? Perhaps the matchmaker showed him that postcard and he showed it to one of his sons ...

Just double checked the family tree (yes, I have one for this lot) and Great-Grandmother Gao's daughter married a son of the Reincarnated Scholar. Doesn't mean the Reincarnated Scholar didn't own a copy of the postcard...
