I hate working night shifts. They turn me into a friggin' zombie and by the time I get to my day off I have no energy to do anything b/c I am a day/morning person. Saturday I had to work until 11pm, Sunday until 9pm, and today was my day off but I'm still in such a daze b/c I do not like this working at night bs. And I can't really get anything done during the day b/c my whole mind/body is screwed up and yeah. Grumble, grumble, bitch, bitch. At least next week I only have one shift going until 10:45pm.
In other news:
On Saturday I picked up the first two books in the Cal Leandros series by Rob Thurman. I am currently reading the first novel, Nightlife. It's Urban Fantasy in the same style as The Dresden Files, though I still think TDF is much better in terms of story/action/cast of characters, I'm also reflecting back on the 12+ books in that series. I am intrigued by Nightlife so far, though parts of it remind me of SPN (two brothers, older protecting the younger, younger is half-demon/monster, all types of dangers and having to move around a lot). It's also told in first person pov which is normally a turn off for me, but much like TDF I am amused by the sarcasm. I was snorting out loud by page 2, so I count that as a win. I was just in need of some fiction that didn't have a shoehorned in romantic subplot and it looks like Nightlife will work for that.
I finally finished the first season of Treme and damn it, that's a good series. Even if it has like, no plot and endgame, it does such a good job of showcasing life. And god the music. The music is just so amazing.
I've spent the past few days listening to mid-late 90s R&B and Pop. It's been a non-stop listening part of En Vogue, Xscape, SWV, Brownstone, Allure, and Changing Faces among others. And of course, TLC and Salt-N-Peppa, but here's my question. Where are the R&B girl groups now? Where have they gone to?
