I could make a joke about my fandom dance card, but I'll spare you.

It's going to be a busy summer for me in terms of fandom.

First, I have Animazement which is HOLY SHIT in two weeks. I really need to a) find my camera b) find a suitcase and c) decide if I'm going to bring the laptop with me, which since I'll be on the train I probably should. azure_raven, aduial_peredhel I'd ask if you'd want me to bring any of my 10 thousand dvds, but ( Read more... )

iiii am debating whether i'll be able to commit to writing something for pacific exchange. I'M EXCITED TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE END UP WRITING THOUGH. this fandom always needs more love.

tim burton is crazy, but he's a crazy genius =D

I mean, I want you to sign-up, but I know there's a different sort of pressure when it comes to exchanges as opposed to big bangs and mini-bangs. And there's always the chance to do some type of art (graphics, fanmix maybe) if you don't want to write? I am sure if this one goes off without a hitch (or with only a few hitches) there will another though. Nat is ALL about trying to rally the troops, so to speak, and get some more fandom love. Esp. when it comes to Team Leckie. I personally like that the exchange is open to het, gen, and slash, so it really is for everyone in fandom.

Tim Burton is a crazy genius and he's maintained it over decades. Got to admire that.

part of the problem is i'm a ....drabble, tiny-moments writer. (SO I AVOID BIG BANG EXCHANGES AS WELL BECAUSE THAT WOULD KILL ME LMFAO) so even 1000 words can be a little challenging for me, but... this fandom has been so fun to write for. if my health was in a better place i wouldn't hesistate, but!

ahhh, WHEN I AM LESS HAZY I WILL MAKE A DECISION. (...and, well, fanmixes are always fun to do. /contemplates.) and team leckie always needs more love (: ...and burgin needs more love, too.

he really channels the crazy into such fascinating and beautiful things. augh, i love creative people.

Yeah, with two history degrees under my belt and being an ultra-verbose, for meeting writing 1,000 words doesn't take more than a couple of hours. Which is why I never go with the whole "but it's only x amount of words" argument, b/c different people are different writers, and at the end of the day it's the quality of the writing that matters over the word count.

And, seriously, your health is the most important thing. Mental issues are the reason why I didn't do FFV this time around b/c pretty much, end of Jan-middle of March was a whole round of family issues and mental strain for me.

So, I'd day think about it, don't go crazy over it, and there's always the art option if you want to do something but don't want to commit to the writing aspect at this time. And if you can't do either, there is ALWAYS room for cheerleaders.

And god, I adore Burgie. His lack of fic makes me weep. Okay, not really, but it's a close thing.

totally agree! (...and dude, when i'm studying for my GED, totally going to you with any history questions i might have, okay? OR MAYBE JUST ANY HISTORY QUESTIONS I HAVE IN GENERAL.) i used to stress about the length of my writing, but -- with the way i write, if i try to make a story up to wordcount higher than it wants to be, i just end up with a lot of filler and wordiness, which puts the quality down, you know ( ... )

Def. bring your questions my way. My focus is more in Italy/Public History, but I have some amazing google-fu and basically the beginnings of a small library.

And yes, your writing has a quality and a feel to it, and that's far more important than any word count.

I read Sledge's and Leckie's books before The Pacific aired, and then read Bill Sloan's book while it was still airing, so I actually sort of shipped Burgin/Snafu BEFORE I even saw any of their episodes. Burgie is def. a background character in terms of how he's show in the mini-series, but I was already look out for him, so Martin McCann and his face made the fangirling even wrose.

lovely ♥ i really adore it when people know a bit about history (and am a fan of random tidbits of historical facts, so /cries) so i really admire this!

i am quite impressed when people can write longfics though, because it's ... a different kind of storytelling, a different tool, and it's always nice to have a grasp on each way.

i'm reading leckie's book now (which has really helped flesh out team!leckie in my eyes, since i didn't get a strong sense of their personalities, other than leckie, watching the show.) and definitely need to get my hands on copies of the others my current reading list is pretty much all BoB and Tp related WWII memoirs o: because burgin really isn't shown too much in the mini-series. (and martin mccann's face is so fascinating, okay. his bone structure!)

My degree options were pretty much History or English. I went with History thinking it would be easier to get a job. A BA and an MA later, I'm a cashier at a grocery store, but *shrugs* at least it's a job. But yeah, history has always been one of my loves, though I am a vocal supporter of overhauling the way it's taught in American schools. It's not just dates, damn it.

I adore Leckie's book, and his writing in general. Sledge's books are also two of my favorites, though I would not put down money on China Marine as it is very short. Def. get With The Old Breed though. I enjoyed both Burgie's and Sid's books. I honestly think the best background book, esp. for Team Sledge is Bill Sloan's Brotherhood of Heroes it gives you a TON of background on Hillbilly, Haldane, Snafu and Burgie.

It's not just dates, damn it. HI. I LOVE YOU. oh man, in school i always had a great time with writing cause and effect essays, the motivations of why people would do things or how it affected a place, all of that kind of stuff -- and then i would get my essays back with low grades because i didn't shove in enough dates or small facts, which was all my teacher would mark for. (and it was an IB class too, so this mindset was especially frustrating) it drove me crazy, because i do not learn well by just memorizing facts and dates, and they tend to not stick with me, but i do learn by association and connections ( ... )
