I'm back in CLT. That trip was harder than hell. I can't really going into it, but suffice to say, watching your Grandfather say his final goodbyes to his wife of 61 years is one of the most personal and heartwrenching things you'll ever witness.
The wake and funeral were lovely. The funeral home did such an amazing job and made it so easy for us. She looked wondeful. Helen, most def., would have approved. There was some family drama, as there always is, but everything went off without a hitch. I was asked to do a reading and managed to do so without breaking down in tears. My grandfather told me, "Now, remember, your Grandma would tell you to stand up straight and speak clearly." So I did.
I pretty much lost it during Amazing Grace though.
Still, we remembered her with stories, smiles, and lots of tears. I can still hear her so clearly. She had a very distinct way of saying "asshole" and that kept coming up in all the stories about her.
Luckily, I have tomorrow off, so it's a day to rest and gather strength.
Thank you everyone for the thoughts, hugs, support, and prayers. It is very much needed and appreciated.
