Oh, writing
So I am really close to finishing what was supposed to be that really short story that kicks off the huge megafic of doom-verse. Right, so the story is currently at 19,651 words and not completely finished yet. Almost there, but not quite. To put this in perspective, bandombigbang fics must be at least 20,000 words and um, yeah, this fic is going to be longer tha that. I've already cut out a few scenes and am sure some more will come out with some edits, but I think this one might be somewhere in the 25,000-30,000 range by the time I'm done. I mean, in some ways it has to be long. It's setting up a huge verse with a lot to explain and a lot going on. On the other hand, this is what I get from coming out of the LotR fandom where we, as a fandom, don't know when to shut up. But honestly, look where we are coming from with Tolkien. Certain volumes of LotR can harm people. The collected volumes of HoME will kill somebody, and throw in The Hobbit, the Silm, and all the other books/part of the canon and you have a whole bunch of deadly weapons. I'm also still doing Tolkien-fic b/c that was my first big-time fandom, and my fic spouse, and I shall never leave it, but I am just so blocked on it right now and am really, really enjoying writing with modern words and being able to use "fuck" every other sentence. B/c with these Jersey boys, trust me, that's canon. That being said, I do want to do a Winter Carol story again this year.
Of course, I still have to do the primers, but finishing the first fic is most important to me, esp. since it is almost done. Everyone, pray for azure_raven's eyes when it is done b/c she's getting first reading rights/editing go-round.
In other news:
Why is it that when autumn starts turning to winter I always whip out all the old HP Remus and Sirius fic? I love the MWPP-era fic, the post-Hogwarts fic, the PoA set fic, the hand-wavy "What Curtain?" fic. I re-watched PoA for the first time in ages yesterday. I've still not seen the most recent movie since I was told by many people it would be better for me to watch it in the comfort of my own home where I won't get arrested for throwing things, but I think PoA is just going to remain my favorite of all the movies. Not just b/c of Remus and Sirius but b/c it is my favorite of all the books and I adore all the little things put in the film.
All Christmas shopping is done. It was only for the family this year as I really can't afford to do it for anyone else. I plan to make up come everyone's birthdays next year.
Nashville on Friday. Ugh. I have a skirt, dress shoes, and dressy sweater packed. Two nights in strange houses with family coming up. Most of my weekend will be spent in airports. On Friday I go from Boston-CLT-Nashville and on Sunday Nashville-Reagan or Dulles, one of the two-Boston. I'm going to be so exhausted at work next monday. Then two full weeks of work, then a week off without pay (ouch!) for CLT-visiting and Christmas, and then no other travel until I move in July. At least I know the plan for the next few months?
