I am feeling much better today. I stayed home yesterday and pretty much slept and coughed the whole day through. So we're going with exhaustion + lack of iron from period + cold+ really bad allergies = me missing pretty much a day and a half of work and hating my life. I forced myself out of bed and into real pants today. My mother told me to take the money she put in my account and to go buy sweaters at Old Navy, since they are having a sale. I did. I bought one black and one grey cable knit and one blue and one grey argyle. Now I just have to look out for a sale on cords.
I also used my Border's coupons and bought Alison Weir's
The Children of Henry VIII and Eleanor Herman's
Sex with Kings: Five Hundred Years of Adultery, Power, Rivalry, and Revenge.
So far I still like Weir's style and her urge to keep to historical fact even if she doesn't write in an academic historical tone or style. I spied Herman's books early last summer and am just now getting around to this one. I've written a fair share of papers on the role of the concubine/mistress/wife/prostitute so I am curious how Herman will portray these roles in her work.
The cashier who checked me out did have the gall to ask me if I've read any Phillipa Gergory and I may have gone off on her just a bit. Look, I know the cashiers at bookstores are supposed to push similiar-genre books on you but there is a big fucking difference between popular histories with an academic tilt like Weir and Herman vs the fictional history Gregory puts out. I really do not like Gergory's works and believe me, I have tried. It's not that I despise historical fiction. I do like Rosalind Mile's ficitonal account of Elizabeth I and intend to read Alison Weir's ficitonal novel on her sometime next year.
I am also in love with Paramore's new album
brand new eyes and I am not ashamed to admit it. My favorite tracks so far are probably "Closer," "Playing God," "Brick by Boring Brick," "Turn It Off," and "Misguided Ghosts." I also like "Ignorance" and "All I Wanted."
Now, to make use of this horrid and rainy day, I am going to watch SPN and CSI. And then, after my talking with
bella_serenity get back to my "casting" of the Nightrunner series for the mini-series or movie.
