I have decided that, yes, I AM going to England this summer. All by myself. To have an awesome time. The tickets will be bought in the coming days. I am still going through which hostels to stay at and where.
So, this is my tenative schedule.
-Fly out from Boston Logan Airport on the night of August 4th
-Arrive at London Heathrow Airport, early morning on August 5th
-Travel many trains until I get to either a hostel in London or one in Brighton. That part is still iffy.
-Stay at said hostel until August 9th. EDIT Have booked a hostel for the nights from the 5th to the 8th. Don't know where I'll be on the night of the 9th, but it will be somewhere. Will need a place to stay for that night, the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th. This is where the other travel plans come in handy. I was amazed at rooms that will already book during the time I am traveling. (Also, it might be wrong, but I always look at what other Americans say in the hostel reviews. Let's face it, Americans are picky picky people who have a huge sense of entitlement. If quite a few of them are okay with a place, I have to think it's decent.)
-Morning of August 9th travel to London Gatwick airpot and fly to Dublin
-Stay in Dublin for a night or three
-Spend night before flying back to America in a hostel a bit closer to Heathrow
-Fly back to the US on the 14th
Again, said plans are still iffy. But I will def. be flying out on the 4th and returning on the 14th.
.....gathered all my old change from the last time I went to London. Coutning an ancient 5 pound note, I have...11 whole pounds! (Man, do I regret giving all those "useless" one and two pound coins away to folks when I came back. C'est la vie.)
Must also:
-Look at cost/price of renting a global phone from Verizon Wireless
-Price comparions on hostels. Still need a place in Dublin and a place for two nights in London.
More craziness of the fic related kind:
Right, so I have LotR fanfic to write like whoa, but sometimes, I itch to write other things. Most of the time I flaten these urges b/c, well, LotR fic to write like whoa, but I don't think I can flatten this one. I have an urge to write Dark-Hunter fanfic, and damn it, I plan on doing it. If only for myself.
Said fanfic will address my four beefs with the Dark-hunter series:
-Really, can there not be at least one non-straight person in the whole universe of the series?
-Why must it all be in America, at least for the Dark-hunters?
-Why must everyone be ungodly tall?
-Where the hell is the Sundown love?
So, I plan to take Julian Alexander's eldest son, Niklos, and focus the main story on him and expand outward from your normal college-kid to the freaky world his dad, and his dad's best friends, have lived and breathed for centuries. I need to find the exact time line for the stories to try and fit (For example, we know Nick Gautier was working for Kyrian in 1996, but do we know if Grace and Julian were married yet? We also know Nick was, well, whatever he is now by 2008 (and that Kyrian and Amanda have a son, to go along with their daughter), but we don't know how long it's been, really, since Nick turned. And, well, I'm going to have to estimate for Niklos age b/c, again, we don't quite know when Grace and Julian got married, how long it was before the twins came along, and how old Niklos was when Kyrian went from dark-hunter to human (we know the twins were still very young, but they were old enough to walk and talk)).
Of course, I could just say "Screw it" and write. But really, at this point the basic premise is: Niklos brings his new boyfriend home to meet the family. New boyfriend, having heard the rumors about Niklos' family, decides to bring along some of his siblings. Hilarity ensues.
For the heck of it, I've decided to name all of the boyfriend's siblings after either What Are Books of the Bible or Who Are Famous People in the Bible. Though, I promise, no one will be named Samson. That one's reserved for the family dog.
Tomorrow I get my paper torn apart in class. I can barely contain my excitement.
Oh, quick music rec: If you like the female singer-songerwriters, I highly recommend A Fine Frenzy's album One Cell in the Sea
EDIT:
Whoa, BoA acts fast. Not even a minute after I finished buying my British Airways tickets, I got a notice about possible suspicious activity. That is a hell of a system. They were just worried b/c, well, I had a bunch of online activity today and then they saw this big purchase. I feel like an idiot though, I couldn't answer one of security questions b/c I honestly did not remember it. (I've never overdrafted, so, I don't know anything about it...)
