Hello from the newly named Rivkave (it pronounces much better than it writes; maybe "Riv-cave," along the lines of "Bat-cave"?). I've been slacking on the reading, but I still have some reviews in the hopper. One humor and three sf this time.

I couldn't get into Arachne, but I did enjoy Mason's Summer of Love and, um, The Golden Age(?), which are both interesting time-travel stories. Neither held up terribly well to a reread for me, but the first reading was enjoyable.

John Birmingham, Weapons of Choice

I _love_ the "castaways in time" genre; all the way from "Lest Darkness Fall" to "Island in the Sea of Time" and "1632." Thank you _so_ much for bringing another such title to my attention. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

I've never made it through Buckley's fiction, as it just lacks oomph. But his travel narratives have more verve. And snark, and well observed character. I treasure his essays in older Conde Nast Travelers, but I should prowl around and see if he's ever gathered them into something with a spine. (heh)

If you're reading military sf I think well of the Metzada stories by Joel Rosenberg. THE FOREVER WAR by Joe Haldeman, of course, but everyone's read that one by now. And Harry Turtledove has some interesting alternate universe/military sf novels, of which GUNS OF THE SOUTH is my favorite.

Keep the reviews coming! Love 'em!
